Riding Lessons for Beginners & Rusty Riders
Never ridden a horse? Used to ride years ago? Start with an Introductory Course. We will help you to be comfortable and safe around the horses, teaching you how to correctly lead and tie, groom and saddle, bridle, mount and dismount. Lots of hands-on assistance from your instructors on good balance and gentle communication with the horse.

Our school horses are well trained and kind hearted, the instructors are certified and have years of experience. You will soon progress to the Novice, Intermediate and Advanced classes. And don't worry – if you do seem to be too advanced for the Introductory, we can move you to a class which is better for you.

Novice, Intermediate & Advanced .
Riding lessons are offered in the ring and on the trail at all levels. If you are new to Miwok Livery, we will schedule an evaluation lesson to place you. Some classes emphasize Centered Riding techniques for fluid movement and balance, others include basic dressage, Natural Horsemanship, and jumping. Many students enjoy taking a ring class with a trail class for variety.

Private Lessons
Private lessons can be arranged by appointment. We recommend private lessons if you want to work on a specific aspect of your riding or to supplement your classes. For most of your riding education, though, we recommend group classes. You get more time in the saddle, and the benefit of seeing yourself mirrored in the other students. Besides, it's fun to get to know your classmates. Private and semi-private lessons are $85 per hour.

Evaluation Lesson
If you have some riding experience, but are not sure what level of class to take, start with an evaluation lesson. We will arrange to have you ride with one of our group classes, after which the instructor will suggest the best classes for you. An evaluation lesson is $65.
